VE Decal 2005

The Rochester area Coast Guard Auxiliary reminds you that the best way to avoid problems on the waterways is by avoiding them before leaving the docks! Area flotillas offer FREE Vessel Safety Checks covering safety equipment legally required to be on board your boat. Our vessel examiners will review with you required equipment, as well as the overall condition your vessel. A decal will be awarded if your vessel passes the examination. Boaters will NOT be ticketed in the event that their vessel fails the examination. Our examiner will review what steps are needed to bring your vessel up to safe and legal standards.

Equipment such as life jackets, visual (flares) and audible (whistles, horns, bells) distress signals, fire extinguishers, backfire flame arresters, as well as the over all condition of your vessel will be examined and discussed.  Vessel Safety Checks are designed not for law enforcement, rather to educate the boating public in legal requirements while showing them what pitfalls and dangers in boating to be mindful of.

For more information contact your nearest nearest flotilla for more information or our Division Vessel Examination Officer via EMail.
